New York born songwriter Ginger Wade will be appearing as a part of the night-long event featuring art and live music at the Kreativnacht St. Pauli. The Hamburg-based singer and guitarist notes, “It’s my favorite night of the year – the whole neighborhood is rocking!” The Kreativnacht runs from 18:00-24:00 – more info at http://www.stpaulikreativ.de. Ginger’s songs often deal with the search for home and identity, such as her song “Accident of Geography,” which deals with how the random fact of one’s birthplace so strongly influences the course of one’s life, or “Bad Habit,” being homesick for a home that no longer exists.
Ginger grew up studying classical and jazz piano until as a teenager she put together her first punk rock band, The Harlots, with some girlfriends in New York City. “We were part of the whole ‘Riot Grrrl’ era, and we got gigs because we were young and cute. Eventually we learned to play our guitars.” Though she performs now alone with her acoustic guitar, she brings the attitude and influence of her early punk-rock days and mixes it with jazz, a touch of melancholy and plenty of humor to create songs that deal with the personal and sometimes the political, addressing themes which are universal: love and obsession, rejection, and Schrebergärten. Ginger Wade will be bringing out her first solo CD in September – previews will soon be available on her website at www.gingerwade.de
